Rob Phillips, Technology Director – Data Management & Machine Learning Systems | CARMAX

Rob Phillips is the Director of Technology at CarMax. Responsible for transforming the technology to unlock the possibilities of using data as an asset. Rob believes that teams, properly constructed and motivated, can solve any challenge put before them.

Rob has worked at CarMax since 2010 and during this time has lead a number of transformative initiatives. His teams have delivered unique capabilities that help CarMax bridge the experience between digital and brick-and-mortar sales. Additionally, Rob was responsible for the technology needed to create a new type of CarMax store that gave the company a new runway of markets it could not previously enter. Prior to CarMax, Rob led the technology reconstruction for a healthcare provider positioning them for acquisition by Change Healthcare.

Rob studied Computer Science at Virginia Tech, holds a B.S. in IT Management from the University of Richmond, and is a graduate of the Society for Information Management's RLF program. Since 2019 he has also served on the advisory board for MIT's Center for Information Systems Research.

May is the Chief Information Officer of Ford Commercial Solution LLC (Telematics, Data Services, Integrated Fleet Mgt Products) as well as Global Head of Connected Tech Vehicle Services (Maintenance, Security), API Platforms, AI\ML. She is charged with building a technology offering that scales with global volume as well as creating best in class software engineering organization.
